The Sharma family are going Back in Time to find out what life was like for South Asian families who settled in Britain from the 1950s onwards. Guided by BBC Asian Network’s Noreen Khan and historian Yasmin Khan, they’ll experience everything from back to back factory shifts and ‘hot bedding’ to watching Madhur Jaffrey on prime time and attending a Daytimer rave. In the process the family discover how the arrival of this pioneer generation in their home city helped to shape modern multi-cultural Birmingham, and the UK, today.
