More crimes to solve from the files where a body wasn’t found, a killer not discovered, and a motive lay in secret.

Detective Sandra Pullman’s team, though made up of retired officers, has plenty to occupy it, and has attacked its new responsibilities with relish. Jack Halford is haunted by the loss of his wife in a hit-and-run car accident: it’s only a matter of time before her death is one he wants to reinvestigate. Brian Lane, on medication (aren’t they all?) is trying to deal with his compulsive obsessive disorder, before his wife leaves him for good. Gerry Standing, a confirmed womaniser with the ex-wives to prove it, is now facing the real prospect of bankruptcy and grandfatherhood. And Pullman herself has questions to answer in her own private life

Among the cases that come their way: a man, grieving after 20 years for the loss of his son, who killed himself after being accused of  murder, demands justice. A seemingly impenetrable golf club committee could hold the secret to the real killer.  The fatal shooting of a female police officer is re-investigated following the discovery of a dumped arms cache. A summons to Buckingham Palace and the investigation of art fraud in the Queen’s collection takes the team back to the days of Anthony Blunt, the notorious spy. The murder of a young peace protester finds his former friends now pillars of the establishment. Yet his killer must be amongst them..  A thirty year old case of a missing mother and baby comes under re-investigation; are they still alive or the victims of an unknown murder? And the tragic killing of a college lecturer is found to be a case of mistaken identity – a second, seemingly unrelated murder holds the key.

Pullman’s team has a real hunger for the job and is finding a surprising incidence of cover-up and conspiracy in many of the cases. Are their superiors about to close ranks? Or is someone feeding them files, certain of a positive result? Either way, the suspicion that they are being manipulated is high – and the team is determined to get to the bottom of it. These old dogs won’t roll over too easily.

The Unsolved Crime and Open Case squad is keeping busy, with its remit to re-investigate crimes that were never conclusively closed - and put them to rest. Shootings, murders, art fraud, apparent suicides, missing persons - all cases from the past that ended with as many questions as answers. Pullman’s officers have a real hunger for the job and are finding a surprising incidence of cover-up and conspiracy. But these old dogs won’t roll over easily.
